San Antonio Road Is Where Mountain View's 2026 Openings Went

November 5, 2026

The corner of San Antonio Road and El Camino Real used to be predictable. You had Jersey Mike's, a Cold Stone Creamery, a Sprouts and a La Salsa that had been there since at least 2005. Every one of those storefronts now holds something else, or is being built out for something else.

Walk a few hundred feet toward the Village at San Antonio Center and the pattern holds. A Shake Shack opened in April, a movie theater with its own bar is selling holiday sing-along tickets, and a pizzeria that spent 24 years on Castro Street now serves dinner at 450 San Antonio Rd. Over the last year and a half, the city's north edge has been doing what Castro Street usually does. It's where the new places show up.

The 24-year move that sets the tone

Amici's East Coast Pizzeria moved from Castro Street to San Antonio Road after 24 years downtown, the Mountain View Voice reported in October. The new location page lists 450 San Antonio Rd. with dine-in, takeout and delivery. Hours run 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The move matters because of what it points to. A downtown tenant of more than two decades picked the San Antonio side when it moved. For anyone living between Rengstorff and the Los Altos line, the family pizza night that used to mean a drive downtown and a hunt for parking is now a short trip up the road.

Castro Street gets something new out of the trade, too. The old Amici's space at 790 Castro St. will become TleafGreen, a fast-casual Burmese restaurant from the team behind Burma Bay Cafe in Fremont, Burma! Burma! in Dublin and Burma 2 in Walnut Creek. Co-owner John Luo told the Mountain View Voice that the team signed the Mountain View lease before its San Jose one and meant to open here first, but city planning took longer than expected.

TleafGreen is expected in December or January. It will be Mountain View's only Burmese restaurant, with 35 to 40 seats plus an outdoor patio. Luo said the fast-casual format lets TleafGreen price its menu 20 to 30% below other Bay Area Burmese restaurants, and all the meat is halal. The tea leaf salad is $13.95.

One plaza, four new tenants

The clearest example sits at the corner of San Antonio and El Camino. In a June story, the Mountain View Voice said the shopping plaza there "has seen significant turnover in recent years." Here's how it changed:

Storefront Long-time tenant New tenant
Former sub shop Jersey Mike's Subs Kusan Bazaar, Uyghur cuisine, arrived in 2025
636 San Antonio Rd. Cold Stone Creamery, then MiPot malatang Matcha Mori, opened around May 2026
Former grocery Sprouts Farmers Market Movement rock climbing gym
660 San Antonio Rd. La Salsa, there since at least 2005 Wing So Good, under construction next to Crumbl as of June 2026

The new tenants are narrower than the ones they replaced. A national sandwich chain became a Uyghur restaurant. A grocery store became a climbing gym. Wing So Good's website describes wing flavors from Cambodia, China, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, and the restaurant applied for a Type 41 license, which covers beer and wine.

That changes what the corner is for. Five years ago it was mostly an errand stop. Now one parking lot holds a matcha bar, a climbing gym and a Uyghur dinner option, plus the space for a wing restaurant that applied to serve beer and wine. You can easily spend an evening there without crossing El Camino.

The Village end picks up the evening

Across the road, the Village at San Antonio Center has been adding reasons to stay after dark. Shake Shack opened on April 9, 2026, at 401 San Antonio Rd., Suite 66-B, according to the Los Altos Town Crier.

The bigger draw is Alamo Drafthouse Mountain View & Dumbots bar at 2575 California St., Suite 99. It opened in June 2025. For the holidays, it has an Elf Sing-Along Movie Party on its calendar for December 2.

A theater that runs late, a burger counter and a sit-down pizzeria within a short walk of each other give the area something it didn't have before. You can do the whole evening, dinner and then a show, without going near downtown.

The same stretch has drawn interest from daytime concepts as well. The Mountain View Voice reported in March that Gram Cafe & Pancakes, known for Japanese soufflé pancakes, chose 458 San Antonio Rd. for its Mountain View location, a few doors up from the new Amici's, with planned daily hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Getting there without circling the lot

Parking is the catch on busy nights, and the routes in have changed. Mountain View's California Street pilot, which runs from Showers Drive to South Shoreline Boulevard, added parking-protected bike lanes and mid-block crosswalks. It also removed 63 of the street's 275 parking spaces, according to the Mountain View Voice. The city has been adjusting posts and sight lines and plans to bring its findings to the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee by early 2027.

For people east of the Village, that corridor is now the most direct bike route to the theater and the San Antonio Road restaurants. On a weekend movie night, it can be quicker than driving in and looking for a space.

Planning the next few weeks around both ends of town

Castro Street still has the city's civic calendar. San Antonio Road adds a second option close by. Here's how the next few weeks line up:

  1. Saturday, November 21: The Mountain View Senior Center's Holiday Bazaar runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 266 Escuela Ave. It's a handmade craft fair with vendors aged 55 and older, open to all ages. Escuela is a short drive from San Antonio Road, so lunch at Amici's or Shake Shack fits easily afterward.
  2. December 2: The Elf Sing-Along Movie Party at Alamo Drafthouse. Have dinner on San Antonio Road first.
  3. Monday, December 7: The city's free Community Tree Lighting Celebration runs 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Civic Center Plaza, 500 Castro St. There will be performances, refreshments, a train ride, crafts and Santa. On your way, check on progress at 790 Castro St., where TleafGreen is expected around the turn of the year.
